As for going around the road closed gate, some people have a different approach. I have it on good authority that such a gate somewhere in this area was found torch-cut into 3' sections and neatly stacked by the side of the road. Maybe that's the kind of thing you can do when you're 80 years old, you've been driving up that road your whole life, and you really don't give a d*mn about the sierra club or the forest service.
