There is a hinge along the lower side of the battery box. It bolts to the battery box floor and also through some of the holes that are in the end of the frame supports for the battery box. There is a hole at the top rear of the battery box cover. A bolt goes through this hole into a bracket on the rear fender. This keeps the cover closed. There is also a tang of metal on the very bottom of the front surface of the battery box cover. A bolt passes through it and goes through the rear of the running borad to a nut munter under the running board. This keeps the ffront of the battery box cover from vibrating.
The hinge was there on my truck but was rusted and bent. I replaced it with a piano hinge that I got at a hardware stoore. It took a while but I found one that you can not tell from the original.
