In my opinion, in a Front and Rear disk system, a proportion valve is mandatory for a proper functioning brake system.

During a hard stop, weight is transfered forward, removing weight from the rear wheels. With the rear end lighter, the rear wheels will/can lock up and skid. Maximum braking is NOT achieved when a tire is skidding. Max Braking is achieved when the tire/wheel, under a hard stop, is still rotating, just a tad before it locks up. Under a normal stop, you would never transfer enough weight to skid the rear wheels. But we must build our brakes for the hard emergency stop we hope wont be required.

I have proportion valves on all my trucks. I consider them an essential part of the braking system on 4 wheel disk brakes.

As John shares, Summit sells a nice proportion valve with a stop light sender. I use the Summit Proportion valves and a stand alone electric stop light switch on my brake pedal. Either one works fine. Last Summit Valve I bought was $49.00
