Where's "down south" to a Texan? I thought Texas was "sown south". A friend of mine had a little old pony-motor D2 here that he used quite a bit. Had to separate the engine from the tranny to fix the clutch on that one, and it was an all-weekend job at the shop at the old Star mine in Burke just to get it apart even with all the right equipment. He died a couple years ago. I hope one of his boys got the cat. He'd added an electric start to the pony motor so you didn't have to use a rope.
My D4 is a workhorse for me. I use it every year to clear the road. There's a bad slide on my place that always needs to get cleared out. This year the slide even knocked over the econoblock wall that the forest circus put in 10 years ago. I hand-mucked enough of it to squeeze my honda car through, but I've got to get the cat running so I can get big trucks through. Hopefully I can move the blocks with my new wrecker.
