Thanks for all the help.
I went and talked to my mechanic this morning about the transmission. There is a lot of pitting rust and most of the gears are chipped. Even if this isn't the cause of the whine it looks like the transmission is in need of help. Does anyone know if the PW PTO currently on the transmission will mate to the NP 420 M37 transmission if I do a swap?
