First they used polished dies to stamp the part in. The hand polish the part until it come to a mirror finish. Then copper plate, then nickel , finally a layer of chrome. Only seconds to minutes in each plating bath, but much had work in the polishing and cleaning before each bath.

Modern brush aluminum- stamp out the part, use an abrasive brush to make it evenly satin. Done.
