i read the blog on the new motor in the crate and there was a mention of it being less than a rebuilt . this made me think back to when a lot of flat heads were on the road .i did see a lot of crankshaft failure but this was due to constant lugging of the engine by the driver . at that time the majority of the vehicles were stardard , and people would not down shift when neccasary ,this in turn put a lot of strain on the crank at the same time a low engine speed lowered the oil presure compounding the problem . massey harris / massey ferguson used the chysler flat head sixes for many model years in there combines and running at full governed speed gave little problems .my opinion , a original factory engine will out last a rebuilt motor every time ,as far as a gas engine is concerned . i would estimate that a factory new power plant would work out to 3 to 1 of a rebuilt as far as lasting . there should be many "new " in crates as we seen here because they were popular in there time and many are still sitting in dealers warehouses , these should be filtering into the market slowly as that engine has , when dealers clean out old non moving stock . but as for the combines with the sixes i have three nieghbours that still run them today ~J
