Don't know if this is true elsewhere, but in Idaho, elected public officials are allowed to carry concealed weapons without a CCW permit. Everybody else needs the permit, which means getting fingerprinted, background checked, etc. What is it about simply getting elected (maybe to the school board or the city council of a town of a couple hundred people) that makes a person trustworthy? Or is it that elected public officials feel that they need to be able to defend themselves against hostile citizens? I wonder how many other laws there are that specifically exempt "elected public officials".
