The straight 8 flathead in my '49 Chrysler New Yorker was the smoothest running engine I have ever seen. You could put a nickel on edge on the head while the engine was idling and it would stay standing.

I never saw a plot of the power curve but I would guess it was a straight line. The faster you went, the stronger the engine seemed.

This car had many safety features earlier then most other cars. It has a padded dashboard. The window cranks folded flush so occupants did not get hung up on them. Turn signals and back up lights were standard.

There were eight cylinders under the hood and seating for eight on two bench seats that were sofa sized and sofa comfortable.

The car rode so smoothly that I used a 6v - 120 v power inverter and used my portable three speed record player with it just sitting on the back seat. Long before there was elevator music, there was "Back seat" music.

I need to stop and get a cool drink.
