How appropiate, you posted this topic on Sunday ;) I agree with the lamp supplier idea. If you can't find one though find someone local with a lathe.

I do this pretty regularly and a lathe is easier as it self centers the hole. Just put 2 nuts on the threads and and chuck the nuts and bolt in the lathe. If the bolt is loose it will just run it tight into the nuts as the cutting action pulls it that way(unless your using left handed drill bits) Center drill first and I normally run a smaller drill through first for a pilot hole, then go to the final size. Make sure you don't grab a grade 8 bolt though! Use plenty of oil/cutting fluid and you have no problems. A box of doughnuts to a machine shop usally covers it plus you might make a friend. Kevin
