Well, John, you are certainly entitled to think what you want. I showed you several references in the book "Dodge Trucks", by Don Bunn.
P. 159 1956 18000 gvw 4x4 with winch
P. 163 1957 W500 with winch
P. 164 1957 W500 with winch
P. 167 1958 W500 with winch
P. 172 1959 W500 with winch
P. 178 1960 W500 with winch
P. 210 1968 W500 with winch
If you do a thorough search of W500 trucks, you will find more of them with the same bumper. As far as why the bumper is not used on non-winch trucks, all I can say is why WOULD they use a bumper like that on a non-winch truck. Why would you want a bumper that projects 24" ahead of the truck in the middle with nothing in that space? That argument is rather meaningless. I have no doubt that numerous W500 trucks exist with different bumpers. I have seen them. But the majority of them are completely different from each other. Sure some will have the extensions and the original bumper as used on the W300. But by far the most common one we have all seen is the one you are trying to say is not correct.
