If you want a drive axle under the front of your 1961 D300 then I would try and get one out of a 1961-68 W300. The 1958-60 W300 frame is different, so I would guess the spring pads are in different places. Plus the 1958-60 W300s are pretty hard to find in any condition, there are a lot more 1961-68 W300s out there.

Are you sure about the axle measurements? I was under the impression that all of the W300s had a wider front track then the rear truck in a single wheel setup.

Starting in 1961 I think the rear axle is narrower (backing plate to backing plate) on a dual rear wheel truck then on a single rear wheel truck, but the front axle stays the same.

But maybe when Dodge went to 8 lug Dana 70s in 1969 they did change the widths, I never measured. AAA might know.
