Hypoid gear oil will work for whay you're after if it has the MT-1 rating. All hypoid gear oils don't have the MT-1 classification but if the brand you choose does then it is safe with yellow metals.....bushings, synchronizers, etc. I use 85-140 in my 50 PW transmission, transfer case and differentials. It seems to seep less from seals than 80w-90. The Valvoline is available in 85-140.
