No seal. Excess oil means plugged crank vent.

If the crank vent doesn't let fumes out, pressure builds and the oil gets pushed out everydamnplace.

Two different springs makes a curve, matched springs make for a straight line.

You can fine-tune the adjustment by bending the hook at the shaft end. Or some have an eccentric pin that can be turned with dikes. The only time I've felt the risk was worth the end point was to prevent my hard of hearing brother from detonating his '72 318 van to death. He couldn't hear any pinging, and once sucked a valve and another time melted a piston, both in my F250 428CJ.
