I stopped at a yard sale today and bought an interesting WWII 5-gal. can. It's marked Nesco 1941 which is perfect for my 1941 Command Car. I've got other Nesco cans, but this one is unusual in that it's galvanized.
The cap is also very unusual being heavy steel with a big square indent in the center of the cap. The threads are a perfect fit but I'm not convinced that this is an original cap. My question is how rare are the galvanized cans? I would think that any 41 issue GI can would be among the rarest and I would then think that a 41 galvanized would be even rarer. Anybody know anything about these? Anybody going to Reading next week for the WWII Air Show/Encampment? There's always a great time there. I served under one of the "Band of Brothers" 101st vets decades after the War when he was still in the MD Nat. Guard. Even well into his 80's he's there every year as a consultant to the reenactors.
