Water Pump Grease

I am about to lube up my '47 WDX and came across a fitting for the water pump for which the manual says to use water pump grease. This is hard to come by.

Do I really need a special water pump grease that is sold on specialty websites for my water pump? Or can I use a modern lithium based, heavy duty, all purpose grade #2 grease?

Also, what weight oil are people using in their air filter baths? The Kendall lubrication guide also says to use "spring lube" on the springs. Would a white lithium spray be suitable?
