They only last two years average no matter what.

Lead and acid work to make electricity, no need to charge at all. Once the truck starts, any 'shortage' will be taken care of by the truck's charging system. 3 hours at 3 amps is only 9 amp hours, not the full amount of the battery, the rest is already in the chemical reaction.

Those directions are for shade tree mechanic, who might blame the battery if it won't start the truck in the first 10 minutes. Do you think shops wait 3-5 hours before installing a battery in the customer's car?
