I always apply some permatex form a gasket on bolt threads( the brown goey stuff), to help seal against leaks. I'd never try to re-use a head gasket, just not worth the work of having to do it again. One day I'll tell you the story of how I had to pull the heads off of a rebuild after one hour of running...
