There are many things that can cause fish-tailing, and what once it gets going it's hard to stop. Applying just the trailer brakes alone can often help.

Poorly adjusted wheel bearings, unequal tire preasure, worn suspension components are all things to keep in mind when preparing for a hual.

But the biggest item is correct and secure location and of the load on the trailer. Make sure there is enough tongue weight, but not so much as to take too much weight off the steering axle. Also be sure that your load is bound down in a manner that will keep is from shifting or wiggling around. That alone can cause the tail to wag the dog.
