last forum mentioned putting 9,00 tires on 5.5 or 6.0 rims >first the rims are not split rims they are correctly called two piece ,the basic rim and the outter lock ring> on rims, by the valve stem will be marked or stamped the tire size required for that rim if for example the rim is 16 x 5.5 thats the tire thats should be installed> this insures that the tire ,the side wall and the bead correctly mate the sealing surfaces of the bead mating with the rim and the outter locking ring to insure that a minimal risk in the assembly and operation of the tire >further changes to bud rims include higher rims and lock rings ,this is primaraly a safty feature as tire technology changed from the mid 40 s to to mid fiftys >tire were square[] when viewed from the front or rear of the vehicle or often refered as tire profile > profile changed dramaticaly it the late 60s and early seventys>sizes like g78 x15 a combination of width and height then overall rim size >changes in tire nonclamature with the introduction of metric sizing ever more complicated and with radials tire profile resemble that of a doughnut > this also effect the tire bead and rim relationship> so can you put on a wider tire on a narrower rim? this seams to be the proven case on power wagons running of the 9s on the narrower rim >technicaly the tires are wrong but it works same a putting a nail in where you should put in a cotter pin> the vehilces with 9s inch tires on 6 inch rims would be detained at a minestry road side check and would not be able to qualify to pass a safty inspection here on the other hand juniors has 16 x 9 michelins open for discussion J
