I don't know what you're looking to spend, but my brother bought a vintage (~1943 I think) Monarch recently for just over $800 on eBay that needed tooling and a little work done. They typically go for double that or more on eBay, but you can find deals sometimes. The old Monarchs are supposed to be top notch....and they weigh over 5000 lbs! But that's part of why they are so accurate. Keep in mind when you're looking that depending on the lathe (any brand), you will likely need a 1-3 phase converter, as most are 3 phase.
