Plating is done by putting chrome into the solution, then electro-plating it out. Usually onto your bumper.

What makes you think that there would be any chrome into the solution with the polarity reversed? Looks to me that there would be no chrome in the solution, and the chrome in the umm anode would be tightly attracted to the anode, the same way as your bumper gets it's coating.

But then I suppose if you were stripping the chrome off of your bumper using the electrolytic process... hmmm, maybe that IS the stage in the process that Hex-chrome is made?

But then, while Hex-chrome has been found in the environment, how many people have actually shown symptoms?
