Do you actually own a driveable WDX type Power Wagon? Because from the standpoint of a WDX being superior to a newer Dodge, I would think you had been partaking of too much British Columbia Basil. (Just kidding copey)
After a decade of messing around with these trucks and driving every model of Power Wagon made prior to 1972 these are my thoughts:
The Power Wagon engine is good for maby 50K before it needs overhaul. The brakes, way inadequate for any kind of HEAVY load. Power? 89hp, well, thank Frenchy Rees for the low gears.
The Power Wagon WDX-WM300 was designed as a tractor that can drive (not too far) into town on unimproved or no roads and bring back some supplies or whatever, but as far as usefuleness in a overall sense, I think it leaves a lot to be desired.
IMO the best all around classic Dodge would be the W300 (preferably a '58) or a W200 as long as it had the 3500 lb front axle. With either of those you can do most of what the original Power Wagon was designed for (less the rear PTO belt pulley stuff) and still be able to drive 100 or so miles on the interstate without major spine/kidney damage.
Just my humble opinion.
