Yes, I agree they're not building them at the rate you say China is. And our coal availability is projected to be around 500+ years last I heard.

The plant at Plum Point will be getting its coal out of a mine in Oklahoma, which is supposed to be some of the lowest sulfur coal available. As far as carbon dioxide emissions, the government better deal with it until a way is found to react it and form something else (even though it is basically inert) or start building nuclear plants again.

An interesting note on global warming and pollution: I did a report last April about different methods of removing aerosols from the air. One source was cited as saying that some estimate the reflective characteristics of atmospheric aerosols actually counteract the effects of greenhouse gases! In other words, processes that create greenhouse gases also usually produce aerosols (i.e. combustion, forest fires, certain manufacturing processes). And while the greenhouse gases want to make the earth warmer, the aerosols in the atmosphere reflect a significant portion of the Sun's radiation, creating a counteracting cooling effect.
