Glad to hear they're building a new coal power plant, seeing as how the US has 1/4 of all the coal in the world. I still doubt we're building them at anywhere near the 50/year rate that the Chinese are.
As far as the pollution goes, though, haven't you heard that the courts have ruled that CO2 is a "pollutant" that the EPA must regulate? Yes, they can get the soot out of the coal smoke now, but it's hard to get the SO2 out and impossible to get the CO2 out. Another thing to keep in mind is that anti-pollution gear usually cuts into the efficiency of everything from car engines to power plants, which means you need to burn more fuel to get the same power out, which increases the amount of pollution you have to deal with. I'm not saying we shouldn't have pollution gear, but we should be aware of the trade-offs, especially when we've already gotten 99% of the pollution out and we going to great lengths to get .9% more of it out.
