As far as the gasket material goes if you buy vegtable fiber material in 1/32 rolls it will come as .025 thick. 1/16 comes .056 and 1/64 comes .014. Same thing goes for stainless steel 22 ga. is .028, 20 ga. is .035 and 16 ga. is .056. I am guessing that the .036 military gaskets were made years ago. It's possible that you could buy gasket material in .o36 thick back then or the military just bought so much of it that the manufacturer made it to there specs. I work for a stamping company that makes gaskets and I have never seen 1/32 vegetable
fiber come .036.
