I understand the issues with quality when it comes to tools. For those of us who use Craftsman hand tools, in order to replace broken ratchets or ratcheting wrenches, just tell the Sears clerk, that your insurance company doesn't cover your use of "rebuilt" tools. This works for me to get brand new replacement everytime. I would never buy any other type of tool from Sears.
For Power tools, I am a strict Milwaukie user. Bosch and Makita are fine with me as well. Anything else, in my opinion is junk.
Hydraulic tools...Blackhawk, Hein-Werner, Enerpac...Welding, Miller, Hobart, Lincoln...and welding power tools...Metabo. All this stuff is pricey, but you buy it once and it doesn't fail.

My two cents worth.

Regards, Steve
