Yeah, I remember all sorts of special plates to stick in and under your carburetor, magnets for the fuel lines, special regulator/filter/conditioner gizmos to run the fuel through. It's amazing that the big auto companies would spend billions on designing complicated computer-controlled fuel injectors and combustion sensors, variable valve and timing, all lots of internal engine refinements just to improve the mileage by 10 or 20% total, when they could have doubled or tripled the mileage if they'd just strap some magnets on the fuel line, put a "catalytic" screen under the carburetor, bubble some of the intake air through some mason jars full of "HHO" water, and wind the battery cable into a coil. It's obviously an oil company conspiracy.

Me, I just ordered up a little statue of Honorius of Amiens, patron saint of oil refiners, which they said will increase power by 30%, reduce fuel consumption by 70%, and give me more pep, performance, and endurance if I just hang it from the rear view mirror and say a quick prayer every time I start the engine. They had lots of testimonials of people who said it worked even better than advertised, so I'm sure it was worth the price, especially since I got it for only $49.95 by ordering today (regularly $299!).
