fuel gauge

I am wiring a B3PW for 12V negative ground. A major problem for me is wiring the fuel gauge. I want to use the original gauge. I have a Chevy Suburban gas tank with pickup and a non-working sender. My questions are:
1. what sender will work with the stock gauge at 12V?
2. how is the gauge wired? My gauge has 3 terminals.
3. do I need to reduce to 6V?

Hopefully, someone has solved these problems.
