Some argue that the galvanizing on cable increases cable heat as the wires don't slide across one another as well within the cable structure. This leads to premature failure, or fatigue at the wrong moment.

Some also say that stainless is more brittle and cannot stand up to the abuse that a typical winch line endures.

Crane and hoist operators say that nothing beats greased standard cable for longevity and durability. The greased cable allows the individual wires to slides easily across one another and the grease helps keep the friction temperature down.

That all being said, its probably most just personal preference depending on how you use it. Greased cable is a pain because it needs to be constantly regreased to counteract dirt accumulation. Stainless is expensive, and galvanized isnt the cheapest either. If you use it often, maybe greased. If you dont use it often and dont maintain often, then galvanized. Who knows, lots of opinions out there.
