Todd,
Either your linkage is worn or the door has sagged or slipped down a little from where it should be. What's happening is the hook on the door latch isn't being raised high enough to clear the double tooth on the pillar. Try to open the handle on the inside as high as possible and RAISE the door at the same time. Easier with 2 people. Temporary fix is to lower the double tooth on the pillar but check for door sag, Kevin
