1. I do not cross my chains as you mention. Each rear chain goes from the axle housing back and out to the trailer. The front is the same, off the front of the axle housing to the trailer. Then I have chains on all four corners of the frame with ratchet binders to pull the frame down on some spring load so the truck does not wallow around on the springs. The truck on the trailer are as one, with only the trailer suspension moving.

2. My brake lines are never a issue. They are directly on the rear side of the axle housings. The chains going around the axle housing, hooks a few links back giving plenty of clearance for the brake lines

3. Whether you use Straps or chain and binders, be sure everything you use is DOT Ratted/Approved. In the event of a tragic accident, you want to be able to demonstrate you were not negligent in using cheap tie down equipment.

Using Ratchet Binders on all chains, and having the frame also bound totally secures your load. Once I am chained down, I have never had to make en route adjustments....it just does not move. I do check my binding at intervals on the trip.
