Hi Dave,
I started out with straps, and found I was always having to keep tighening them up. Then I went to chains and binders, the cam type of binders. Those worked a lot better. Last year I upgraded to ratchet binders and they are the best of all.
Ask 10 guys how they chain a load and you will get 12 different answers and most of them will be right.
As Doug said, go under the brake lines.
I do not cross the chains, left rear axle to left rear of trailer, etc. that will have the chain against the side of the tire, which may act as a bit of a shock absorber.
Towing the Power Wagon, I only hook to the axles and its solid as a rock. Towing the W-100, I also put ratchet straps from the frame to keep it from bouncing on the springs.
Tim
