I just removed mine but I had the third members off and the pinion shaft out. Those things where still a bitch.
Bob Stahl had a method I think might be worth giving a try. He made a three pronged device that will clear the pinion shaft and he welds the ends of the prongs to the seal. At the other end he has a hole that a pipe slips thru and he uses that for leverage to remove seal.
