My steering wheel needs to come off for replacement, having been mangled in a rollover by a previous owner.
It won't budge. It is rusted solid onto the shaft. Yes, the nut is gone. in fact, someone may have tried to pull it before, since the shaft end is flared out to the point where the proper nut will not fit.
I ruined a steering wheel puller I've used for 24 years. Galled the threads putting so much force on it. The wheel simply is not going to come off.
My question is, can the entire steering column be detached from the gearbox and pulled through the firewall? Or should I use a sawz-all and cut the wheel to pieces and pull the whole steering assembly out the other direction?
