I've got a rebuilt 251 (now 265) in my '58 W-300 that I do not have a dipstick for. I've modified (by hammer) a common rear sump oil pan to serve as the required front sump oil pan, but cannot fit a dip stick through the usual hole in the block. The correct pan has a dipstick mounted in the side of the sump. I have put in the speced 6 qts of oil, and measured the level with a 1/8" brass rod put down the oil fill tube to the bottom of the pan. I'm hoping somebody may be able to figure the correct distance from the bottom of the block to the correct oil level in the pan to confirm my measurements. This might be a usefull number for a lot of folks without dipsticks! Thanks to all!

Rob
