Since Dodge doesn't make a crew cab I am guessing you are talking about the quad cab, which is like a king cab but with four doors. Interesting that you should ask as I have been researching these trucks and have just tested almost the same as you are looking at. Are you aware that for 2001 there is a HO (High Output) engine and 6-spd tranny available? The engine is up 10 HP and 45 FtLbs of torque and is currently available only with the 6 spd manual tranny, the both together is about a $1K option.
Having driven two identical long bed 4x4 quad 6-spd cabs where the only difference is the rear gear ratio I feel the 3.54 is the way to go, much better driveability IMHO. Both these trucks were fully loaded ($37K) and the dealer dropped $6K right off the bat to try and sell me one, not that he did.
I wouldn't have the automatic either due to prior problems with one and the fact the engine is detuned for an automatic. As one of the other guys mentioned, go to the TDR and you will find a wealth of info on these trucks, including mods.
