I also have a 98 but mine is a shortbed extended cab 4x4 Sport. I dont think the crew cab is available, it would be news to me if it is. I love mine. It gets about 18 mpg highway and will pull my 13,600 lb pulling tractor and a 4,000 lb trailer with ease. I pull M-37's and big 4x trucks on a bumper hitch triple axle with ease. I have the automatic, and while I respect Charlies knowledge and opinion, I have seen no trouble with any of them in our area since 98. Prior to that is a different story. I have the RV spec 275 horse injectors in mine and a straight through 3" exhaust. Late model would be street cars dont stand a chance at a light. I have the 3.54 gears and 285 tires, and I think 4.10's would be better if you dont plan to keep the stock tires. Im sure it would pull better too as my final gear ratio is like 3.28 with my tires. It still runs like a scalded dog. No powerstrokes passing me unless I let them!! Good luck, sounds like a nice truck at a great price.
