Thanks, Gordon, I found it! I forgot to mention that when I went through the axle this past winter, changing to 4.10 in the process, I also added a Dana Trac-Loc limited slip.
Following your one-side-at-a-time concept, I rode around with one side hublocked, then the other--no noise.
