help, an ignition problem

The plate on this 1963 dually 3/4 ton powerwagon says it's a T-series M57, but it looks like a regular M37. Has some huge rusty chrysler flathead six in it. Things were great and then all of a sudden it quit on me. Moving the coil wire away from the distributor got it to start rough, but as soon as I would hit the gas it would die. Otherwise when I crank the starter the carb just floods and gas runs out when I pump the accelerator pedal. Tow truck driver thought it was ignition not carb so I replaced the coil, wires, sparkplugs, and condensor. The points and cap looked good after I cleaned them. Still doesn't start. It seems spark gets to the distributor, the rotor turns, but it doesn't fire up. What the heck is it?
