I worked on a Vauxhall for a lady once, and everything they say about Lucas is true. The Vauxhall was basically a compressed Chevy. Everything the Brits added, however, was just wrong on one small way or another. For example, they'd inexplicably moved the gas filler hole to a "ditch" (for lack of a better term) in the rear deck between the trunk lid and the rear quarter panel. Half the rain that fell on the back half of the car ran through that low spot, right across the gas tank lid cover. The filler neck was in a "can" recessed under that cover. The engineers had apparently been smart enough to realize that water might run down into the can, so they put a small drain hole in the bottom of it. Of course the drain hole was easily clogged, which meant the water filled up the can and ran down into the gas tank. The first thing I had to do to get the car running was flush lot of rust out of the fuel system. All of this was because somebody apparently thought the fuel filler would look better next to the trunk, than in the side of the body somewhere.
