i was taught the better the engine :breathes the better the milage>cam shaft dynamics are the key to preformance and economy>from the factory a cam shaft does more than just open and close valves >this key component is designed for several purposes 1)aid in easy starting 2)produce a smooth running engine at idle speeds 3)to provide a proper duration and lift to a given set of specifications 4)also to contol gases entering and exiting to match the operating componants to meet pollution requirements such as carb or tbi, distibutor settings ,exhaust 5)and even be transmission compatable 6)and be of design that insures performance through various ranges of the throtle position> thats a lot to ask from a stock camshaft i have done many change overs in camming and have been convinced that is the most important step to mileage> next to a better intake system and a well set up carb >all so changes in the ditubutor can increase milage >tunning the advance curve, change up on the weights and springs>selections of camshafts are very easy to choose i f you drive mostly hiway ,off road, city ,pulling heavy loads, there a cam shaft best suited to your aplication >from a price stnad point it a resonably inexpensive change that would pay back it a short time >and less complicated that of a complete change over of a carb to thottle body
