U Bolt come with torque specs from the manufacturer. I have seen these specs direct to torque with lube and specs to torque without lube. I follow the manufactures specs and have 'never' pulled or galled threads. The re-use of U Bolts and Deep Nuts can cause this galling as the threads are deformed when torqued. Heating as you mention has a effect on the metallurgy which I would not tamper with.
