I figured I was going to get the 1154 and 1158 numbers mixed up. Thanks Tom!
When I finally found original tail light buckets for my WDX, I found that the 6-volt bulbs that I had been using for years would not fit the old sockets. I remedied the situation by grinding off the one offending pin on the light bulbs. Well okay, this did not really remedy the situation. The bulb would now sit just crooked enough in the socket such that one contact would not touch.
Then I found the correct old style bulbs with opposing pins. You are correct, they are getting hard to find. I think I got mine at NAPA. I see that they are still listed at McMaster-Carr.
I figured were being polite with not confusing the issue. Now I have everyone confused! ;^)
