They are fine. Read about them. The liner is the cylinder liner and the issue is cavitation. V8 diesels are more prone to this than inline motors. Basically, the FORD will be fine if taken care of. The cummins is probably a better engine. The Ford is probably a better truck in my opinion. If you are asking about an 86-95 Ford you are talking about two different engine. The IDI is the earlier one and is more prone to cavitation than the Power Stroke. I have a 94 turbo with an IDI and I like the thing still and have had no issues besides maintenance items (brakes, clutch).
