A full floating axle carries the weight of the vehicle directly on the axle housing >the hub which secures the wheel and brake drum is held in place by two tappered roller bearings on this axle housing> the axle shaft only transmits the torque from the differential to hub, it carries NO weight .On a non floating axle the axle shaft carries the weight of the vehicle and so does the bearing > aAll that you have to carry the load or weight is the actual axle shaft
