If I understand you, the one half slides where the two are 'wound together'? The only thing that prevents that is that the ends are woud tighter into ears that act to retaoin the hood at the center pivot brackets, cowl and radiator. That tight 'pin' should start sharply, with a hard shoulder. Perhaps you can sharpen that shoulder by crimping with a pair of pliers. And a dab of weld would help too.

My lower pin part was broken off, and the outer piece of hinge worn down where it had rubbed on the front pivot. I saved it by squaring off the outer section, about 3/8" short, and welding a stud into the inner piece. The stud acts as the pivot pin now, and also as a definite end stop at the front. Not very noticable. My upper pivot is still loose enough for me to slide the two halves apart.

For those of you replacing a hood hinge, be sure to use some seam sealer in the two joints where it is riveted to the hoods. Otherwise rain will leak in there, and puddle in the spark plug depressions. Wish I had known that before I painted.

Is your radiator support solidly tightened at the frame? Perhaps it is wobbling there, making the hinge more likely to 'walk' apart.
