The only difference between the 6.2 and the 6.5 is the heads and the addition of a turbo. I believe the 6.2 has slightly larger valves. Everything else is the same. I know of a 6.2 litre 4x4 3/4 ton that gets 23 mpg. I have a 8,500 lb 4x4 auto with 4.10 gears and dual rear wheels that gets 20 mpg. This has the 6.5 litre with the turbo in it. Completely different gearing, axle and suspension on the HUMMVEE though. Maybe there isn't much of a difference between direct or indirect injection economy. Or can we even compare?

30 mpg sounds great. I would love to have a 4BT to play with. It seems like it would be fun to transplant a 4BT into a whole host of things. I'm still not set on putting a GM diesel in my truck. If I could find a 4BT for a good deal I would snap it up. I also always wanted a first generation 6BT. The only inline six diesels I have had are the 3116 caterpillar and the Hercules multi-fuel. The aftermarket for the 6BT stuff out there is amazing.
