My grandfather was sleeping in his tent when he woke up to a Gilla monster in his tent with him. He pulled the slide back on the 1911 and the round jammed up against the throat of the barrel and he was left with the slide stuck half open. I have this same 1911. The Gilla Monster just charged forward. My grandfather threw himself out of the way and rocketed out of the tent. Another time my great uncle fired a .45 round, the slide did not open, the hot gasses went down into the magazine, bullets exploded, the grip bulged. He is lucky his hand didn't get filled with splinters. There were two armed soldiers within a pebbles throw one with a mauser pointed at him. A nearby explosion saved his life. I personally have had two seperate occasions where a stock Colt 1911 has given me trouble. Another 1911 I have, a round jumped the feedramp jamming itself, leaving the slide open just like my grandfather. This was with a completely different Colt .45. The other where my friend was shooting his Colt and the ejector catch snapped off after firing a round. Luckily the situations I was in were not life and death. After having a throating job and a few of the other things I mentioned, I would trust a Colt .45 with my life though. I have fired a few thousand rounds of .45 ACP and have had many more good experiances than bad. Both the quality and nostalgia that this gun carries has made this one of my favorites.
