Ha Ha, I collected all those parts thinking I would need them someday, but they just gather dust year after year. With the price of scrap skyrocketing maybe I should throw them in my metals roll-off. A lot of people seem to think these engines are converted from their gas counterparts, but originally this was a Detroit Diesel designed block that GM took over the manufacturing on. People also confuse this block with the troublesome 5.7 litre Oldsmobile diesel (which is now very sought after to convert over to high horsepower gasoline applications). The only engine ever used in the HUMMVEE is a 6.2 litre naturally aspirated diesel. I would also think because these engines are indirectly injected they would get much better economy compared to direct injection diesel engines. What mileage could one expect from the 4BT or 6BT?
